CODE OF CONDUCT/FAIR PLAY CODE – PLAYERS
As a team, we are responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for everyone participating in softball. This code of conduct outlines the expectations of Sechelt Minor Softball Association for behavior, both on and off the field, and it will serve as a guide for upholding the core values of teamwork and sportsmanship. Let's work together to make this season a positive experience for all!
- I will always play by the rules of the game.
- I will respect my coaches, teammates, and all parents involved in the game. I will respect officials, accept their decisions without questioning them.
- I will be respectful to all opposing teams regardless of the score.
- I will acknowledge good plays and performances by both teams and encourage my teammates.
- I will support my teammates and be accountable for my own performance.
- This is a youth sports league free from drugs and alcohol. I will remember that there are younger spectators at games and I will be an example for them to follow. I will commit to zero tolerance for inappropriate language towards athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators

CODE OF CONDUCT/FAIR PLAY CODE: PARENT/GUARDIAN
- I will treat all individuals equitably, regardless of their race, gender, or skill level. Each team member plays a valuable role and contributes equally to the team's overall success.
- I will support and encourage my child without exerting excessive pressure.
- I will instill values of cooperation and teamwork in your child and educate them about the rules of the game.
- I will actively participate as a spectator in games or practices and offer to volunteer where necessary.
- I will maintain a balanced perspective towards winning and losing; and foster an understanding that fair play takes precedent over victory.
- I will assist my child in being a responsible team player and respecting the guidelines set by coaches.
- I will respect the authority of the coaching staff, refrain from interfering with their decisions, and support their coaching philosophies.
- I will address any concerns respectfully and appropriately, without disrupting the team environment.
- I will uphold the dignity of all parents and guardians, both from your team and opposing teams.
- This is a youth sports league free from drugs and alcohol. I will not attend games or practices under the influence of alcohol or drugs. I will remember that there are younger spectators at games and I will be an example for them to follow. I will commit to zero tolerance for inappropriate language towards athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators
- I will refrain from shouting criticisms towards any player’s performance from the stands.
- I will address any grievances through appropriate channel (SMSA board) after a cooling off period of 24 hours.

CODE OF CONDUCT/FAIR PLAY CODE: COACHING STAFF
This Code of Conduct is established to provide a guideline for the behavior, coaching practices, and overall conduct that coaches within our association are expected to adhere to.
- My core responsibility is to instill a sense of fair play in my players by teaching them to respect the rules, officials, opponents, and their own teammates.
- I will ensure that each player will receive equal treatment in regard to instruction, discipline, support, and fair play time, regardless of their playing abilities.
- I am dedicated to ensuring the safety of the players by confirming that all equipment and facilities are suitable for their ages and skill levels.
- I will inspire and motivate players to achieve their best through positive reinforcement.
- In every circumstance, I will foster a growth mindset, encouraging players to strive for excellence and personal development positively.
- I will underline the importance of good sportsmanship, commending whenever it is displayed.
- I commit to providing constructive feedback to individual players privately, avoiding negative criticism in front of their teammates.
- I will take responsibility for SMSA’s team gear for the season and make sure it’s all returned after the tournament.
